Project Overview

A hydroelectric dam project in Brazil required massive quantities of ice for concrete temperature control. Without cooling, the heat of hydration during concrete curing would cause cracking in the massive dam structure.

Solution

DAXTRO designed and installed a 50-ton/day tube ice production facility - one of the largest in South America. The system includes two 25-ton tube ice machines operating in parallel with a 150-ton capacity cold room and automated ice weighing and delivery system.

  • Combined Capacity: 50 tons per day
  • Compressors: 2 x Bitzer 8-cylinder semi-hermetic
  • Cold Room: 15m x 10m x 4m, 150-ton storage
  • Condensers: Water-cooled (river water source)
  • Control: Unified PLC system managing both machines

Results

  • Delivered 2,500+ tons of ice during the peak construction phase
  • Concrete core temperature maintained below 65 degree Celsius (specification: 70 degree Celsius max)
  • Zero construction delays due to ice supply
  • Plant later relocated to serve another project - modular design enabled rapid disassembly
