Understanding how a tube ice machine operates helps buyers make better purchasing decisions and operators maintain their equipment more effectively. This article provides a clear technical overview of the tube ice making process.
At the heart of every ice machine is a vapor-compression refrigeration cycle with four main components:
Step 1: Water Circulation
Water is pumped from the bottom water tank to the top distributor, flowing down through stainless steel tubes in the tube ice generator.
Step 2: Freezing Cycle
Cold refrigerant flows around the outside of the tubes, freezing water from the inside out. The water that doesn't freeze recirculates. This takes 15-20 minutes depending on ice thickness settings.
Step 3: Ice Harvesting
When ice reaches the desired thickness, the system switches to harvest mode. Hot gas from the compressor is diverted to the evaporator, warming the tube walls just enough to release the ice columns.
Step 4: Ice Cutting
As ice columns slide down, a rotating cutter at the bottom cuts them into uniform lengths (typically 25-50mm). DAXTRO allows you to adjust cutting length for different applications.
Step 5: Ice Discharge
Cut tube ice falls into the ice storage bin or is conveyed to the cold room. The cycle repeats automatically.
